Join us for an evening of film, music, talks, good food and more as we celebrate Jack Kerouac, who was born 100 years ago this year!

About this event

Jack Kerouac was born 100 years ago this year, and to celebrate, the Beat Museum and the Henry Miller Memorial Library are throwing a party!

Here’s how we envision the evening playing out:

3 - 4 pm - Doors open softly. Browse an exhibit of rare photographs and ephemera courtesy of the Beat Museum. Grab a glass of wine or a beer from the bar. Let the hard bop wash over you.

5 pm - Steve Edington presents "Big Sur: Jack Kerouac's Last Train to the Coast," a chapter in his forthcoming book "The Gospel According to Jack," followed by Q&A.

6 pm - A panel discussion on Kerouac with director Michael Polish, HML Executive Director Magnus Toren, Steve, and Beat Museum director Jerry Cimino.

Throughout and in-between: recordsBYbg

Around this time, we'll serve dinner boxes courtesy of COAST! Options will include a tahini goddess salad and a summer vegetable mezzo box (gluten free and vegan).

Note: Dinner is included in the ticket price!

7:30 pm - Presentation by Michael Polish, director of the film “Big Sur” (trailer below), based on Kerouac’s novel of the same name, published 60 years ago.

8 pm - Screening of "Big Sur," followed by Q&A with Michael.

The party will double as the launch event of the Beat Museum’s Jack Kerouac Centennial Tour, in which they’ll — pun incoming — hit “the road” and travel to over a dozen cities in the U.S.

"There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.” - Jack Kerouac
