Biographical info on the artists:

Jacám Manricks established his bona fides as a composer, arranger, and improviser of the highest order. A multi-instrumental master, he spent more than a decade in New York City collaborating and recording with definitive 21st-century players such as drummers Tyshawn Sorey, Jeff “Tain” Watts, and Matt Wilson, guitarists Ben Monder and Adam Rogers, pianists Gary Versace and Kevin Hays, and bassists Thomas Morgan and Joe Martin. Manricks has been based in Sacramento for 7 years now. His impact on the local jazz scene has been significant, raising the standard by presenting concerts as a leader, often featuring internationally renowned artists, and performing as a sideman as soloist/composer/arranger/educator for local jazz artists and institutions.

Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts joined the Wynton Marsalis Quartet in 1981 and proceeded to win three Grammy Awards with the ensemble. Jeff is undoubtedly one of the most historically significant and important jazz drummers of our time. He has developed new approaches to jazz rhythm that have impacted modern jazz artists world-wide. In addition to having his own unique sound as a virtuosi drummer and jazz composer, Jeff carries-on the legacy of American jazz drumming greats, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Tony Williams and Max Roach.

First call New York city bassist and former Art Blakey Jazz Messenger Essiet Okon Essiet has performed with a who’s who of jazz masters including Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, James Moody, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Jackie McLean, Kenny Barron, Jimmy Cobb, Billy Higgins, Abby Lincoln, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, to highlight only a partial list.

Joe Gilman is Sacramento Jazz. He was the primary pianist with jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson from 2006 to 2016, and has performed with Eddie Harris, Woody Shaw, George Duke, Chris Botti, Eric Alexander, Nicholas Payton, Wycliffe Gordon and David "Fathead" Newman. Dr. Gilman has shared his knowledge disseminating jazz education in the Sacramento area for over 30 years teaching at the Brubeck Institute, American River College CSU Sacramento and his private studio.
