Iyengar Yoga Workshop with Kristyan - Asana, Pranayama, Yama & Niyama
Saturday 29th April
£30 (£20 concession - student, OAP, unemployed or those on benefits)
B.K.S. Iyengar believed that yoga should be available to all. In keeping with this ideal, there will be two places available at a 'pay what you can' donation basis. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to apply for one of these places or follow 'donation' ticket link below.
'Yoga' is an ancient Sanskrit word meeting 'to yoke', or join. The practice of yoga is a journey towards integration; the student of yoga seeks to unite or 'yoke' the physical, mental and spiritual selves.
Indian texts dating back over 1000 years make reference to yoga practices which include physical postures (asana), breath conditioning exercises (pranayama), as well as describing guidelines for how to live a good life by following the ethical disciplines/abstentions (yamas) and the individual disciplines (niyama).
B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014) began practising yoga as a child. He suffered numerous childhood illnesses including typhoid, malaria and TB. Through the rigorous practice of yoga asana and pranayama his health improved. Mr Iyengar dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of yoga. He wrote numerous books on the vast subject of yoga, including the definitive Light on Yoga which is a complete textbook of all the asanas and illustrated with photographs of Mr Iyengar demonstrating the poses. He developed a system of practice that emphasises alignment and precision of slow movement performed in rhythm with the breath. This is yoga for all.
The workshop will include asana and pranayama practice and include discussion of the yamas and niyamas. Please wear comfortable clothing and refrain from eating for two hours before the session. All welcome, though if you are completely new to yoga please email me to discuss suitability: email@example.com
