Description

Medications’ influence on optimal functional rehabilitation for patients with neurological and/or psychiatric disorders.

Seminar Description: Rehabilitation outcomes can be hindered, enhanced or merely complicated by medically necessary drug treatment. This seminar will investigate the complexities of pharmacological interaction with functional rehabilitation for patients with neurological and/or psychiatric disorders in order to optimize outcomes for both. Using a case-based and interactive approach, the intricate world of pharmacology is presented in a user-friendly format. This course is directly related to the practice of physical and occupational therapy and is therefore appropriate for healthcare professionals in the rehabilitation field including physical and occupational therapists and their respective assistants, speech pathologists and others on the rehab team.

Schedule:

0-10 Minutes | Background and review of learner outcomes

10-25 Minutes | Pharmacology review and pharmacology effect on the nervous system

25-50 Minutes | Common medications for neurological diseases - symptom management for common impairments

50-75 Minutes | Specific medications for neurological diseases - Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, TBI, and other diagnoses

75-90 Minutes | Psychotropic medications

90-100 Minutes | Medication Screening On-line resources

100-110 Minutes | Patient Scenarios - patients with multiple co-morbidities, complications

110-120 Minutes | Q & A, summary
