MEET THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE HIGH-SPEED RAIL HAPPEN

Start the morning by connecting directly with the people making high-speed rail a reality. Talk to industry representatives about internship opportunities, career path goals and other ways you can make a difference while building your career.

Scheduled speakers include:

Tom Richards, Vice Chair, Board of Directors, California High-Speed Rail Authority
Jeff Morales, CEO, California High-Speed Rail Authority
Dr. Joaquin Arambula, Assembly Member, Fresno
Lee Ann Eager, President & CEO, Fresno County Economic Development Corporation

Get a behind-the-scenes overview of the program, and hear from local leaders how this project is creating regional benefits and opportunities to expand the workforce. Following a lunch catered by Tree of Life, hear from former students as our #Iwillride alumni explore how their involvement with the group helped their transition from college student to career-focused professional. The afternoon culminates with a tour of current high-speed rail construction in the Fresno area.

ABOUT #Iwillride

#Iwillride student chapters throughout the state connect students with the high-speed rail program and those working to make next-level transportation a reality.

Born in the heart of California’s Central Valley, #Iwillride was founded by college students who support options in mobility and transportation, and the development of California’s high-speed rail program. #Iwillride members believe this significant investment in the state’s transportation infrastructure, mass transit, and transit-oriented development will offer regional connectivity, economic opportunity, and an environmentally-friendly alternative for transportation in the 21st Century.

These students recognize that high-speed rail will provide safe, affordable, and fast train service from Northern to Southern California through the Central Valley. They imagine the opportunities to explore California as a passenger; working or relaxing in comfort, visiting family and friends, and accessing cultural and entertainment venues. #Iwillride members participated in the Authority’s historic groundbreaking ceremony in January 2015 with Governor Brown and other officials. Additionally, they have spoken to state legislative committees, members of Congress, local governments, and the media to add their voices to the discussion regarding the need for California to build the nation’s first high-speed rail.

After graduation, former #Iwillride college chapter members are working in a variety of industries including business, communications and other technical professions. Some former members have become chapter mentors after graduating. Additionally, former college members and supporters have formed an #Iwillride professionals group to continue to stay engaged in the conversation about high-speed rail and related topics. ABOUT CALIFORNIA HIGH-SPEED RAIL

The California High-Speed Rail Authority is responsible for planning, designing, building and operating the first high-speed rail in the nation. High-speed rail will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs, and preserve agricultural and protected lands. When completed, it will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds capable of exceeding 200 miles per hour. The system will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

With more than $3 billion invested and exceeding 119 miles of active construction in the Central Valley, construction of a high-speed rail line between the Silicon Valley and Central Valley is planned for passenger service beginning in 2025. The high-speed rail program has already created hundreds of jobs up and down the state and is set to expand even further. That means opportunities for students like you!
