To prepare for the game, all you need to do is keep studying. To get an idea of how the competition is structured below are some important details.

GAME FORMAT

It’s Hygienic is played by up to 8 teams of 6 students each. Each tournament is composed of five (5) rounds. All regional schools registered to play in the competition will compete in rounds 1 - 4. The highest four (4) scoring teams will move on to the finale case study round.

Round 1 “Team Round” (+20 points)

This round allows the team to collaborate with each other to gain the maximum points

• Assessment (health history, EIOE, periodontal, risk assessment, etc.)

• Strategies of Oral Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Control

• Management of Pain and Anxiety

• Treatment Planning

• Instrumentation for Patient Assessment and Care

Round 2 “Battle Round” (+/- 10 points) BUZZER

• Anatomic Sciences (H&N anatomy, Dental Anatomy, Histology and Embryology)

• Physiology

• Biochemistry & Nutrition

• Microbiology and Immunology

• Pathology (General and Oral)

• Pharmacology

Round 3 “Visual Round” (+/- 10 points) BUZZER

• Radiology

• Oral Pathology

• Instrumentation

• Periodontal Charting

• Dental Materials

Round 4 “Semi-final Round” (+/- 10 points) BUZZER

• Community health

• Research principles

• Professional responsibilities & ethics

• Mental health/well-being

Round 5 “Finale – Case Study Round” (+10 points)

This round gives another opportunity for the teams to work together. Each team will select from the group of case-study packets, starting with the team with the highest total points. They will be given 10 minutes to review their cases and answer questions on the paper. The answers are submitted to the judge(s). Each team has ten (10) questions to answer without penalties. A 25-point bonus is given if all ten (10) questions are answered correctly.
