"It's All Neuro" Brain Injury Workshop with Dr. D.

About this event

Course Description: The "It's All Neuro" Brain Injury Workshop is a live, virtual two-day event that provides training on all aspects of acquired brain injury including neuroanatomy & neurophysiology, etiology, symptoms and related issues, assessment and rehabilitation, cultural competency in care, special populations, and return-to-activity. This course will provide you with knowledge that will support you in medical and educational settings. This course will also prepare you to take the examination to become a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.

Audience: The course is appropriate for professionals and graduate students in allied health (SLP, PT/PTA, OT/OTA, nursing), psychology, medicine, special education, and social work and who work with persons who have an acquired brain injury.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Identify the neuroanatomy and describe the neurophysiology of the normal brain and the changes that occur following brain injury.
  2. Describe types of acquired brain injury, etiology, and the incidence and prevalence of brain injury within various age groups.
  3. Identify the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial symptoms and issues associated with brain injury.
  4. Discuss the role of professionals in the assessment and rehabilitation of acquired brain injury.
  5. Apply skills for cultural competence into clinical practice for increased clinician-client interactions, more accurate diagnoses, and increased rehabilitation outcomes.
  6. Identify special populations who are at risk for brain injury and considerations for culturally responsive care.
  7. Describe treatment outcomes and considerations for return-to-activity following brain injury.

Requirements for Course Completion: For satisfactory completion of this course, participants must attend both days of the workshop and the feedback survey.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Alaina S. Davis is a licensed medical speech-language pathologist and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer with the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists. She has expertise in neurologically based communication disorders with adolescents and adults, with a research focus on cognitive-communicative disorders associated with traumatic brain injury and concussion with adolescents and adults, as well as return-to-learn/play/activity. Dr. Davis’ work also incorporates the cognitive and communication styles of adolescents and adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. In this realm, she identifies bias within cognitive-communicative assessment and treatment materials and aims to develop culturally appropriate and relevant materials. She is published in professional journals and has co-authored chapters on TBI. She also co-hosts a podcast called, Sunday Dinner with Dr. Stanford and Dr. Davis in which she leads a series called "Brain Injury Chronicles with Dr. D." sharing stories of athletes and individuals who experience concussion and the impact of the injury on their lives.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Purchased tickets are eligible to be refunded up to 7 days prior to the event less a $75.00 administration fee. Refunds after 7 days will be handled on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed to be honored. If you require a cancellation due to schedule conflict after this date, please email the event organizer to discuss future registration options.
