Event description

Description

What is your earliest memory of making something with another person? In this workshop we will define collaborative makership and discuss the myriad benefits of using this format in your classroom. Cooperation, communication, and skill sharing with materials sets the precedent for these values to emerge elsewhere in the early childhood setting. I will present examples of collaborative artwork at APS, highlighting challenges and suggesting adaptations. Throughout the workshop participants will have the chance to make a hands-on collaborative art piece of their own.

Lauren Aczon comes into the role of atelier from three years working with toddlers at Aquatic Park School, along with a lifetime of materials exploration. From chromatically organizing all crayons in a 64-count Crayola box to contributing her calligraphy to weddings and other community events, her commitment to spreading beauty and order in the world fits hand in hand with her conviction that a high quality early childhood experience is humankind's best chance at a future.
