About this Event

It Takes a Village: Maintaining Hope during the Pandemic in 2021

This webinar has been rescheduled for March 19, 2021.

Moderator: Terrie James-Taylor | Montgomery Hospice and Prince George's Hospice Director of Community Outreach

Featuring:

Gloria Thomas Anderson, PhD, LMSW | Advance Care Planning Expert and Author of "The African-American Spiritual and Ethical Guide to End-of-Life Care & Toolkit"

Description:

This conversation seeks to give a glimpse into the African-American community from the concept of "It Takes a Village", to explore some of the meaningful community rituals that have been dismantled by the pandemic. We will explore some of the cultural and generational values as they relate to the church, elder care, and social interactions on the personal and community level. This community dialogue is an open discussion - we are looking at ways to maintain hope in the New Year.

Objectives:

1. To define the origin of the village concept from an African-American historical perspective and its relevance to cultural and generational values

2. To look at the losses of meaningful, community rituals that have been impacted most by COVID-19

3. To consider ways to nurture our community during the pandemic that encourages healing and restoration

Continuing Education

*This conversation counts towards The Center for Learning's Certificate in End-of-Life Care (elective)
