It is a Rising Sun: A Look Inside the Constitutional Convention (Free)
Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (EDT)
Join the National Constitution Center’s Mark Kehres for an engaging and informative discussion of the creation of the Constitution. The Philadelphia Convention of 1787 labored through intense heat, personal differences, and bitterly divisive issues to forge a governing document that has proven its resiliency through 226 years of history. Mark will discuss the problems which led to the Convention being called, the debates over representation, and the way in which the Convention’s treatment of slavery set the stage for another eighty years of conflict, culminating in the Civil War.
