Description

ISLAMOPHOBIA CONFERENCE 2017

For the second year in a row, Morayma invites you to a unique conference. The theme of this year's conference is DECOLONIALITY & ISLAMOPHOBIA.

There is a growing international interest in decolonization and decoloniality. An upsurge of scholars, activists and organizations discussing ideas and concepts related to questions of race, racism, modernity and history with a decolonial framework can be seen throughout the world.

At the same time, there is an intensfying global islamophobia. Muslims in the Global North are facing extreme levels of hate-crimes, demonization in the media, being subject to anti-radicalization policies, discrimination and racial profiling. The discussions on race and racism in relation to Muslims in Sweden are being discarded and often portrayed as not a urgent matter. Activists who are bringing the effects of islamophobia to the table are labeled "extremists" and the discussions are often derailed with accusations, demonization and demands.

How can we address these issues? What kind of history does the modern forms of racism and islamophobia rest upon? What kind of strategies can we develop? How can we begin liberation processes?
