Islamic Cultural Awareness Training
Wed, March 29, 2017, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM PDT
MARCH 29 (9:30am - 12pm) TRAINING WILL BE HELD AT THE SIERRA BUILDING, 1925 E Dakota Ave.
The Islamic Cultural Awareness Training is designed by Fresno County Behavioral Health, Dept. of Social Services & Dept. of Public Health in preparation to support the recent influx of Syria and Middle East refugees resettling in the Central Valley. Prior to recent Executive Orders from the President, plans were in motion for more refugee families to be relocated to Fresno. We are unsure of current relocation plans. However, we are carrying forward with a planned cultural awareness workshop. Many (but not all) of these families identify with the Islamic faith. County staff members may benefit from a training in Islamic Cultural Awareness so they could be more informed as they serve current and future community members.
Hajj Reza Nekumanesh, Executive Director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno (ICCF). It has been a beacon of interfaith cooperation and social justice work in Fresno. He will speak to:
• Muslim Diversity
• Syrian Refugees in the Central Valley
• Middle Eastern Cultural Literacy
This training will provide insights into some of the inter-cultural cues essential for effective work and meaningful interaction when coming in contact with people from Islamic culture backgrounds.
