* ABOUT MARIE DE WAAL: Marie (she/her) is an improviser with more than a decade of experience, most of it in English as her second language. She has trained with teachers from all over the world and is most drawn to the Keith Johnstone style of impro. She is passionate about teaching and facilitating, especially to English second-language speakers. Most of her classes come with an in-built history or background lesson (she loves a good impro book), but don't worry there will be enough time to play. Marie has experience playing, developing shows and facilitating in several different countries. She co-runs ISL and has been teaching for this project since 2020.

Frequently asked questions

What's improv?

Improv is short for improvisation, and it's the art of discovering what is happening as it happens through mutual support and reciprocal inspiration. It's a theatrical artform based on absolute collaboration.

WHEN is the course taking place?

Every Wednesday from 17th September 2025, 7pm-9:30pm. More specifically: Wed 17th September, Wed 24th September, Wed 1st October, Wed 8th October, Wed 15th October, Wed 22nd October.

Is the venue accessible to wheelchair users?

Yes! More info here: https://www.theatredeli.co.uk/leadenhallstaccessibility-guide

I have no previous experience in theatre or comedy: is that ok?

ABSOLUTELY. Come along, you will be more than fine.

I might miss more than one session. Is that a problem?

It could be a problem, as improv training is very practical, and you cannot catch up just by being told what was done on the sessions you missed.
