Event description

Description

ISHKAR is happy to host Lalage Snow and the screening of her documentary in its space in central London.

The documentary

Afghan Army Girls follows three of the Afghan National Army's first female officer cadets through six months of rigorous training. Set against a backdrop of a fragile society, the abandonment of women's rights and an ongoing war, we follow Homa, Zainab and Samiya as they battle against all the odds to make it into the Afghan Army's officer class.

It took director and filmmaker Lalage Snow a year to gain access to film Afghan Army Girls. During the filming she lived with the cadets in their barracks on the outskirts of Kabul and followed their training from dawn to dusk and dawn again for six months. Snow incorporates photographs into the film as a means of showing life outside the confines of the military base.

[Running time: 47 minutes]
