Statute of Limitations (SOL). This is a phrase that we hear all of the time in the world of tax preparation, IRS Examination and IRS Collections.

But what is it really? It exists for a particular purpose.

How long is it? As you will learn in this course, it can vary significantly depening upon the topic of conversation.

When does it start and what stops it from running? We will discuss when the Statute of Limitations clock gets started and what events cause the clock to stop.

And finally, what happens when it expires? The answer here may surprise you, as this can be good or bad depending upon the circumstances.

We will explore these questions and more on some of the more common statute of limitations that you will encounter in the tax realm.
