Event description

Description

The terms ‘informant’, ‘informer’ or ‘source’ are ones that are widely understood in policing and security but are they fully understood by the wider public? Beyond knowing that such an individual provides information to the police and security services, little is often understood about their rights, how they are chosen and how they are managed. They are often ghost like figures in regard to their role in the criminal justice system; we know they exist, but little more. This discussion aims to shed light into this area, whilst also looking at the legal and human rights impacts of their use.

Speakers include;

Mr Michael O'Toole - Assistant Editor and Crime Correspondent at The Irish Daily Star

Dr Eoin O'Connor, B.L. - Author of forthcoming book titled ' National Security Law in Ireland'
