Event description

Description

An architectural and cultural look at Irish Columbus post-St. Patrick’s Day in the month of green. We will start at Dempsey's Food & Spirits with a little Irish trivia and tour leaders Doreen Uhas Sauer and Tom Betti. Doreen and Tom hope to stump you, but did you know that Columbus Irish served in the Civil War under Henry Neil’s command? Once went to Mass in a riverfront tavern? Worked in German breweries and helped build the very German Great Southern Hotel/Theater? Next we will board a bus for a short ride past the earliest Irish settlement, “Irish Broadway,” St. Patrick’s Church, and the old St. Patrick’s Cemetery before heading to the South End to Tara Hall, the social outreach for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, dedicated to Irish culture, music, history & traditions. We'll enjoy an evening of music, with a special guest storyteller, Michael Follin, Coordinator of Interpretative Services at the Ohio History Connection. Drinks are on your own tab at both stops, but we will provide a few nibbles/snacks and lively narration along the way. Arrive early to Dempsey's if you want to order dinner.
