Lauren GreenfieldPhotographer/filmmaker Lauren Greenfield is renowned for her remarkable insights into youth culture, body image and the effects of consumerism. Author of the books Fast Forward, Girl Culture and Thin, her work is widely published and exhibited in many museum collections including the Getty, LACMA, SFMOMA and the Art Institute of Chicago. American PHOTO named Greenfield one of the 25 most influential photographers of our time. Greenfield's Emmy-nominated documentary film Thin (HBO, 2006) provided an unprecedented window into the psychology of eating disorders. It premiered at Sundance and won the Best Documentary Award at the London Film Festival.

Lauren Greenfield will screen and discuss the digital feature she directed as part of the BEAUTY CULTURE exhibit. The 30-minute documentary explores our cultural and historical obsession with beauty and the way beauty has been defined and sought after in contemporary culture. This film and Greenfield’s work look at the universally intoxicating quality of beauty, as well as its oppressive effects on female body image. In addition to the film, Greenfield will also show new photography as well as relevant works from her career.
