About this event

Level 1 training is suitable for parents, carers and supporting family members who wish to gain a greater knowledge of the law.

This training course covers the following topics:

  • Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities – the legal framework
  • The duties on local authorities, schools, nurseries and post-16 institutions
  • Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments
  • EHC plans, personal budgets and direct payments
  • Naming a school or further education institution in an EHC plan
  • Changing an EHC plan
  • Mediation and appealing to the SEND Tribunal
  • Introduction to the Equality Act 2010 – disability discrimination in schools
  • SEND Tribunal procedure
  • Exclusion from school

In order to sign up to this training you MUST be a member of Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum and be living in Bedford Borough or accessing services in Bedford Borough e.g. school
