Event description
Learn how to develop an IP strategy and build a strong patent portfolio as a biotech startup.

About this Event

Intellectual property (IP) is at the core of all biotech startups. A good IP strategy is essential to fundraising, business development, and ensuring you can freely develop your technology without infringing on other patents.

But IP is complicated, and mistakes can be expensive. Resource-strapped startups often must make tough decisions around early IP strategy in the face of uncertainty.

In this Biotech Startup School event, Michael "Mike" Hostetler, Partner in Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati’s Patents and Innovations practice, will share advice on how startups can design an IP strategy to support successful fundraising and business development activities.

Mike has extensive experience working with biopharma companies large and small. He designed and implemented IP strategy for 5 FDA-approved drugs (Imbruvica, Erleada, Lesinurad, Otiprio, and Xiidra) and 50 active clinical trials. Mike has supported over 100 clients undergoing IP diligence for venture investment and has advised multiple M&A transactions, including five over $1 billion.
