Description

Students: Are you passionate? Do you want to do something about an issue you care about but don't know where to start? Would you like to make your world a better place?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then RISE is for you! Organized by the Iowa Student Learning Institute, a youth-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, this event is by students for students. RISE is an innovative student voice conference for you to share your ideas, meet and collaborate with your peers from across the state, and learn how you can become a change agent in your school and community. The conference will feature keynotes from recognized student and adult leaders, followed by breakout sessions for you to explore solutions to issues you care about.

The 2019 keynote speakers include Jalesha Johnson, Tehya Tournier, and Dalia Wrocherinsky. Jalesha Johnson is a graduate of East High and alumni of RunDSM programming and is a current student at Drake University. She will be sharing her story through slam poetry. Tehya Tournier is a current student attending Iowa State University. Tehya is the founder of Let’s Start Talking, a non-profit meant to break the stigma around mental health. Dalia is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and will be sharing the story of how she got involved in public policy and reform on a national level.

During breakout sessions, you will have the opportunity to discuss issues in your school, lead a breakout session on a topic you care about, meet other students who are passionate about making a difference, and explore solutions to the problems you care about.

We welcome students of all ages to come and make their voice heard at the seventh annual RISE conference. For more information, visit www.iowasli.org/rise or contact contact@iowasli.org. Event schedule and more details coming soon!
