Description

What draws people to Iowa when their roots were planted elsewhere? What makes a 'home' and why chose Iowa? IowaWatch and the Iowa Writers’ House want to throw an event that will engage with these questions and reveal unforgettable stories of those who have built courageous new futures here. Attendees will be invited to a historical 1920's era home to eat, drink, and celebrate the amazing stories of courage, identity, and what it means to belong.

Iowa, my Second Home: True Stories From the Heartland will take place Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Writers’ House in Iowa City. We are anticipating an intimate audience of 30-40 of our community’s most engaged citizens.

IowaWatch is dedicated to producing and encouraging explanatory and investigative journalism in Iowa, engaging in collaborative reporting efforts with Iowa news organizations and educating journalism students. In an era of profound social and political change, the importance of quality, unbiased journalism cannot be understated.

The Iowa Writers’ House's mission is to extend the literary legacy of Iowa to all writers, and to elevate with the potential to create change. Since its founding in 2014, the organization has become an essential part of our community, reaching over 3,000 Iowans who have a passion for reading and writing.

The event will be modeled after the Public Radio Exchange show The Moth and will serve as a fundraiser to support our nonprofit organizations.

With your support, November 30 promises to be a night not soon forgotten.
