Invitation to a Traditional Sweat Lodge (Temazcal) Lecture & Ceremony
Overview
Dear Family, Dear Community,
We will gather for a lecture on the traditional Native American Sweat Lodge the Temazcal, an ancient purification ceremony practiced across many Indigenous nations throughout the Americas. For countless generations, tribes from the North to the South have entered these sacred lodges to pray, to cleanse, to reconnect with the Earth, and to remember the teachings of the ancestors.
During this gathering, we will explore:
-What the Sweat Lodge is a womb of the Earth, a place of rebirth, healing, and prayer.
-The spiritual meaning the stones as the Grandfathers, the water as the sacred breath, the fire as transformation, and the lodge as a ceremony of humility and balance.
-Why so many tribes hold this ceremony as a way to purify the body and spirit, to restore harmony, to strengthen community, and to honor the Earth.
-The teachings behind the Temazcal how we enter in respect, how we pray, why we sing, and the ancestral ethics that guide this sacred work.
After the lecture, we will share a hands on moment of building the Sweat Lodge together, allowing everyone to understand the structure, symbolism, and intention behind each part of the lodge.
We will close the day with a traditional Sweat Lodge ceremony, carried with prayer, songs, and the teachings that have been passed down for generations.
This is a space of respect, learning, and community open to all who come with a sincere heart.
