About our Speaker: Ayelet Shaked

Ayelet Shaked was elected as the Minister of Justice on May 14, 2015. Until recently, Minister Shaked was a member from the Bayit Yehudi Party (Jewish Home). She was elected second on the party's list in the 2015 primaries as the first secular woman in Bayit Yehudi. On December 29, 2018, she left the party with it's Chairman Naftali Bennet to co-found The New Right (HaYamin HeHadash) political party in advance of the April 9th upcoming elections.

Shaked is considered one of Israel's most active and influential legislators, drafting laws including Israel's 2016 NGO law, its comprehensive law against terrorism, a version of the basic law proposal on Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish People, as well as a law limiting the powers of the Israeli Supreme Court. She is against the creation of a new Palestinian state, she supports the decriminalization of marijuana, Kurdish independence, increased capitalism in Israel, and a new balance between the ideas of Israel as a Jewish & democratic state. Often discussed in the media as a potential future Prime Minister, in the opinion of Haaretz, "she is poised to be Israel’s most successful female Israeli politician since Golda Meir".

Shaked is the former chairwoman of the "My Israel", a Zionist hasbara movement she established along with Naftali Bennett in 2010 that fights against demonization and disinformation about Israel via the internet. From 2006 to 2008 Shaked worked as a personal assistant for Benjamin Netanyahu, who was then the leader of the Opposition. In 2012, Shaked won the Abramowitz Israeli Prize for Media Criticism.

In the former Knesset session, Shaked served as the chair of the Knesset lobby to return African migrants to their countries of origin; chair of the special Knesset committee leading the legislation aimed at integrating Ultra-Orthodox Jews into the work force and army service, and as chair of the Knesset lobby for the release of Jonathan Pollard.

During her army service, she served as an officer in the Golani Brigade. She holds a degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Tel Aviv University. Shaked is a mother of two and lives with her husband in Tel Aviv, where she was born and raised.
