About this event
Frenchtown borough historian Rick Epstein and Dodge poet Vasiliki Katsarou will lead a generative poetry walk through the landscapes and history of Frenchtown.
Participants will learn about forgotten local histories, reflect upon personal stories, and use the rhythm of walking to write a first draft poem about the experience.
Participants allow themselves to use "beginner's mind," their heightened powers of observation, and the rhythm of their own walking to respond to places and spaces both real and imagined.
No writing experience necessary.
Invisible, an exhibition curated by Jill Kearney, features the work of twelve artists whose practices examine omitted histories, imperceptible forces, and unspoken narratives which render that which is apparent, misleading, or incomplete. In illuminating invisible forms of labor, unspoken emotional states, and unnoticed effects of human presence, the exhibition examines what the author Svetlana Alexievich calls “the missing history — the invisible imprint of our stay on Earth and in time.”
Featuring: Monica Banks, Willie Cole, Phebe Macrae Corcoran, Vasiliki Katsarou, sTo Len, Kaitlin Pomerantz, Kelly Popoff, Sandra Ramos, Gabrielle Senza, Pavel Urkiza, Kawita Vatanajyankur, and Natalija Vujošević.
Invisible is on view at @artyardcenter Jan. 15 to April 10. ArtYard is open to the public from 11 AM to 5 PM Wednesdays through Sundays. Visit artyard.org for more information.
