Overview:

5AM Ventures is an early stage venture capital fund that partners with academics and entrepreneurs to build the next-generation of life science companies. The firm has been investing in the life sciences for sixteen years and manages approximately $1B USD.  The firm is currently investing it’s fifth fund of $285M USD with a diverse team of experienced drug developers based in Boston and San Francisco.  Through its incubator, 4:59, the team works with founders to seed finance and launch new companies based on innovative discoveries.  The team plays a hands-on role, often taking interim operating roles, to establish companies and move programs forward.  The firm also invests in established companies through Series A investments, primarily leading or co-leading investments.

Primary area of interest:

Therapeutics:
The 5AM team is searching for novel technologies with the potential to dramatically improve patient’s lives.  We are stage, modality, and indication agonistic.  The firm has interests in novel discovery platforms and modalities with potential applications across multiple indications.  5AM seeks out opportunities where there is compelling mechanistic rationale through translatable cell & animal models and/or human data supporting the biological approach.

Additional areas:
The firm also makes select investments in therapeutic drug delivery platforms and research tools. Therapeutic drug delivery platforms include novel ways to deliver drugs that are already approved by regulatory agencies with the goals of enhancing efficacy or safety profiles, expanding to novel indications, improving health economics, and ultimately having a significant clinical impact for patients.
