Who We Are:
The San Franciso Chapter of BetterInvesting invites you to attend a morning packed with workshops helping you to become a better investor. The SFBA Chapter's mission is to educate, mentor and support individual and investment club investors and potential investors using the BetterInvesting approach. This approach is built on four investment principles — a foundation that has withstood the tests of time, market fluctuation and economic change. The four principles are:
- Invest a set amount regularly.
- Reinvest earnings, dividends and profits.

- Diversify your investments.

Your Taxes and Your Investments (Sue Larsen)
This interactive class will look at different tax rates for earned income (salary) and unearned income (investment). Tax rates can have a significant impact on your financial health as you invest and save. The goal is to keep your investment earnings out of higher tax brackets by choosing investments that offer the lowest tax burdens. We will use a free online tool to help evaluate different scenarios.
SSGPlus Online Tool Part I: Screen for Stocks (Harriet Chan)
Learn about stock screening with the online SSGPlus. Learn to use a screen to find companies to fit your criteria, or use the Pre-Defined Screens to identify such things as quality, value, and dividend stocks, or large, mid and small cap companies to balance or diversify your portfolio. Some of the companies found in these screens will be used in Part II.
SSGPlus Online Tool Part II: Technical Analysis and the SSG (Harriet Chan)
Learn how to read charts and how charts can help you decide when you should enter the market using the stocks screens from Part I. Learn how technical analysis can guide your judgment on the SSG and improve your confidence. Technical analysis will enable you to see how the market views the company. Coupling this with fundamental analysis from the SSG will give you a broader view of the company you are researching.
Finding the Best Mutual Funds (Henry Gold)
Henry will explain key differences to look for in mutual funds and compare the differences between ETFs and mutual funds. So many mutual funds to choose from!! How do you find the best? Learn how the composition and fees of mutual funds may affect their returns. Henry will also demonstrate how to use mutual funds for stock screening.
Dividend Stocks to Grow a Portfolio (Craig Braemer)
Learn about building a portfolio using dividend stocks. This workshop will include a discussion on how to grow an income stream by using stocks versus bonds. Interest rates are low; we will cover why dividends should be important to investors in the current economic environment. We will review some dividend basics, talk about how to use the SSG for dividend analysis, and discuss a dividend growth strategy. Come join us to hear more about how a growing income stream might be a way to fight low interest rates.
Live Stock To Study (Sue Larsen and Craig Braemer)
This class will walk through an actual Stock Selection Guide (SSG) and how to handle the various judgment sections of the SSG. This is an interactive class with lots of practical discussion about filling out the SSG. Put this new knowledge to work right away.
SF Model Club Discussion (Model Club members)
We will have an open discussion on Model Club meetings from both an operational view as well as a stock perspective. What are we buying and selling in the club and why? How are we doing in these markets? So come and join us for this informative discussion about our Model Club activities. The Model Club meets the second Thursday of every month between 5:45 - 7:30 pm. We typically meet at the SF Main Library. Please reach out to our President, Joanne Willcox, to inquire about available space and location. Contact Joanne at email@example.com or 1-415-456-7656.
