MORE ABOUT CHAMPIONS OF CHANGE AND UNITED WAY'S "WHY"

In early 2019, United Way launched Champions of Change. Champions is a one-year leadership and design program for community leaders with the primary goal of designing a grassroots grants and supports program to increase investment in community-based, Black-led ideas. Learn more about our Champions, their work and beyond at www.uwgc.org/Black-led.

UWGC believes in creating a community where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Poverty undermines that opportunity for more than 600,000 people in our region. While poverty touches every part of our Greater Cincinnati community, Black families experience poverty at higher rates than other racial groups. We know there are Black community members and Black-led groups working every day at a grassroots level to improve outcomes, yet there is an under-investment in those solutions and ideas. We believe that by effectively investing in community-based, Black-led ideas (and leaders), we can: (1) bring greater diversity to solutions in addressing poverty, (2) gain a better understanding of communities, and (3) collaborate to reduce racial disparities.
