Corporate Growth Opportunities and Japan’s Economic Agenda

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is advancing an economic growth agenda designed to make Japan the best place in the world to do business. Among the most important goals of the Abe agenda is doubling foreign direct investment into Japan to $350 billion by 2020.

Achieving this FDI growth will require corporate tax reform, and the national government is aiming to reduce the percentage level of the effective corporate tax rate down to the twenties in several years and start the first phase reduction from the next fiscal year. The Abe Administration has also designated a number of “National Strategic Special Zones” across Japan with an eye to facilitating private sector investment and encouraging economic growth in each of these regions. This regional effort is supported by a new initiative – “Local Abenomics” – which is designed to strengthen ties between local governments and foreign companies.

This seminar is designed to inform New York business leaders of the Abe agenda, with a focus on the regional efforts noted above, with special attention paid to investment opportunities in the renewable energy, healthcare and tourism industry sectors.
