Description
In this workshop, Alex Stinson will introduce how Wikidata, a linked open database describing over 42 million concepts, works and can be used to advance cultural heritage and research projects. As part of the workshop, he will introduce the data structure, how to contribute, several tactics for matching data from authorities, and the query service.
Alex Stinson is the GLAM-Wiki Strategist at the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that supports Wikipedia. He develops infrastructure, capacity and best practices for Wikimedia's global volunteer community to partner with Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs). Alex has a masters degree in English literature and previously worked in Digital Humanities, where he supported digitally inflected pedagogy and digital research projects which shared humanities knowledge with the public. Alex has been contributing to Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects since 2005.
