Introduction to Trauma-Focused CBT

Dr. Julia Felton will present an overview of child trauma and evidence-based approaches for treatment. She will review definitions of abuse and discuss the prevalence of maltreatment among youth. Common affective, behavioral, and cognitive reactions to trauma will be discussed. Dr. Felton will then introduce Trauma-Focused CBT, an empirically-supported intervention for addressing symptoms related to trauma-exposure. She will discuss the evidence for this approach and detail the specific components of treatment. Participants will gain a better understanding of trauma exposure and cutting-edge intervention efforts for children and adolescents.
Participants will learn:
- To define trauma in childhood and identify common causes of trauma-related mental health disorders
- To understand common post-traumatic reactions among trauma-exposed youth
- To gain familiarity with the principles of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).
Dr. Julia Felton is a licensed clinical psychologist at Alvord Baker and Associates and Director of the Master's in Clinical Psychological Sciences program at the University of Maryland. Dr. Felton's research and clinical work focuses on developmental psychopathology, with a specific interest in mood and substance use disorders as well as post-trauma functioning. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, Dr. Felton received her PhD from Vanderbilt University and completed a clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.
This is a training for mental health professionals, and other health professionals.
CE Credits: Eligible for 3 CE credits
In order to receive a certificate, registrants must attend the entire session.
Cancellation Policy for CE Training Programs
Please note: refunds for JSSA’s 3-Hour CE training programs are provided 5 days prior to the training date. After that time, a credit can be issued if JSSA receives a registrant’s cancellation up to two business days prior to the training date. This credit can be applied towards a future 3-Hour CE training, symposium or post-graduate course up to one year from the issue date.
