Event description

Description

JOIN US FOR THIS TWO HOUR WORKSHOP FOR AN OVERVIEW OF HAITIAN HERBAL HEALING, SPIRITUAL DANCE, PRAYER, MEDITATION, ANCESTOR HONORING, AND AFRO-CARIBBEAN HISTORY. You will catch the color, sound, smell, taste, touch, and energy of Haiti and the Afro-Caribbean spiritual tradition practiced in Haiti that is called "vodou."

The word vodou simply means "of the spirit." Hollywood, international politics, and cultural misunderstanding has conspired to demonize the practice of "vodou" as something evil and uncontrollably dangerous.

Nothing can be further from the truth for the millions of Haitians at home on the island, in the diaspora, and non-Haitians who believe in the power of nature, One God, and his "angel spirits" to heal and help us through life.

Christian imagery and symbols that were once forced on the enslaved Africans brought to the islands have become powerfully assilimiated into Haitian traditional worship making it even easier for those of Judeo-Christian backgrounds to relate to the spiritual practice of vodou.

In "Introduction to the Healing Arts of Haiti" you will hear the legends of the Haitian spirit world, experience the rhythms of Haitian drums, discover how Haitians honor and call upon ancestors of the past for help in the present, and learn about Haitian herbs and their uses.

The workshop is hosted by Thierry Isaac and presented with guest mambos, priests, drummers, and herbalists to share their knowledge and answer your questions.

Refreshments will be served.

Tickets are $25 each or two (2) for $40.
