This interactive in-person workshop for all educators who work with English learners (ELs) will explore the components of the WIDA Framework for Language Development Standards with a focus on academic language. Participants will engage in hands-on activities that dissect the WIDA Can Do philosophy, examine academic language, and consider the socio-cultural factors that influence language use. This workshop provides foundational awareness of the WIDA Framework and is designed for any educators that work with ELs. During this workshop, facilitated by a WIDA trainer, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the components of the WIDA Framework for Language Development Standards
  • Recognize the socio-cultural factors that influence language use
  • Identify the three dimensions of academic language
  • Use the WIDA Performance Definitions to identify language expectations of instructional tasks
  • Explain the components of the WIDA Standards Matrices
  • Identify the elements of a Model Performance Indicator

This workshop is intended for EL Points of Contact, EL specialists, school leadership, and all teachers who have ELs on their roster.

This workshop will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at OSSE, Eighth Floor Room 806.
