Purpose:
The importance of understanding adolescent brain development and applying this knowledge to our prevention efforts follows one of the guiding principles of the Strategic Prevention Framework: Cultural Competency. When prevention efforts are specifically designed to serve teens, understanding adolescent brain development is one way of becoming culturally competent.
The overall goal of this training is to provide information about adolescent brain development so that you can use this knowledge to inform your evidence-based prevention strategies.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify key characteristics of adolescent brain development
2. Describe how common substances affect the adolescent brain
3. Apply knowledge of adolescent brain development to evidence-based prevention strategies
Target Audience:
Substance Use Disorder Prevention providers including organizational leadership, coalition or council coordinators, community organizers, coalition members, direct service providers and community members interested in introductory information on adolescent brain development.
