Introduction to the Academic Commons

GGC's Academic Commons is a collaborative online environment designed to support faculty initiatives for teaching and learning. If you're interested in finding out how you can use the Commons to create an ePortfolio, showcase your research, or collaborate with your colleagues, this workshop is for you. Bring your laptop and your questions for an overview of the Commons with plenty of time for Q & A and exploration.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss the purpose and features of the Academic Commons.
  • Demonstrate how to access and edit your profile on the Academic Commons.
  • Demonstrate how to access and edit your personal site on the Academic Commons.

This session will be offered three times. Please register for the date that is most convenient for you:

1) Friday, January 19, from 10:00 - 11:00 am

2) Friday, February 23, from 10:00 - 11:00 am

3) Friday, April 13, from 10:00  - 11:00 am

 

Facilitator:

Mr. Michael D. Smith - Digital Learning Specialist

Michael D. Smith is the Digital Learning Specialist for the Center for Teaching Excellence. He holds an M.Ed. in Learning, Design, and Technology (with an emphasis on Instructional Design and Development) from the University of Georgia.

Michael spent over twenty years working with information / academic technology at Emory University before completing his Master’s degree and moving to Gwinnett Technical College, where he worked as an instructional designer / LMS administrator.

Michael is particularly interested in student engagement and motivation, the development of learning communities, blended / online learning, gamification and game-based learning, augmented reality, and virtual worlds and immersive 3D learning environments.
