About this event

The Social Data Institute is delighted to be hosting a free two day in person course lead by Nick Bearman on Introduction to Spatial Data, Using R as a GIS and Spatial Statistics in R.

In this two day course we will explore how to use R to import, manage and process spatial data. We will also cover the process of making choropleth maps, as well as some basic spatial analysis. We will cover the use of loops to make multiple maps quickly and easily, one of the major benefits of using a scripting language to make maps, rather than traditional graphic point-and-click interface.

We will also show you how to prepare and conduct spatial analysis on a variety of spatial data in R, including a range of spatial overlays and data processing techniques. We will also cover how to use GeoDa to perform exploratory spatial data analysis, including making use of linked displays and measures of spatial autocorrelation and clustering.

This course requires no prior knowledge of GIS or spatial data and is open to SHS students and staff only. No previous experience of GIS or scripting is needed, but if participants have experience of either (GIS or scripting), this will be helpful.

Please bring your own laptop to this course. Installation instructions will be provided before the course for the software required

The course will take place on the UCL campus on the 22nd and 23rd June, between the hours of 10am-4.30pm. Specific details of the exact location of the course and timings will be sent to participants a few days prior to the course taking place. Some light refreshments will be available for those on the course but please be aware you will need to bring your own lunch.

Please note that there are only 15 spaces available for this course and it will operate on a first come first serve basis. To register for this in person course please complete the form below.

If you would like any more information about the course, please feel free to contact Nick at nick@geospatialtrainingsolutions.co.uk
