Event Details

Skeet Shooting is an exciting sport that challenges the shooter wtih shots from a variety of angles and positions including single and double bird presentations. Skeet is great preparation for bird hunting and is great fun in its own right. This class will introduce you to the rules and techniques for properly shooting skeet and improving your scores.

 

Student requirements and logistics:

  • Club member or family member and at least 18 years of age (bring membership card to the class please). You must provide your valid membership number when registering at this site.

  • Bring your own shotgun of any caliber (12 or higher) or you may borrow one of the clubs guns. Must be double barrel, semi-auto, or pump for shooting doubles stations. Put your most open chokes in both barrels (skeet chokes preferred)

  • Bring 2 boxes of cartridges along with eye and ear protection. If borrowing one of the club guns please bring 12 guage (7.5 or 8) target load cartridges

  • You must be familiar with safe operation, handling and shooting of your shotgun

  • Cost: there is a small fee that covers the cost of the clays for two rounds. 

Class topics

  • Skeet field layout and stations

  • Safety topics

  • Recommended Chokes and cartridges

  • How/when to shoot the singles birds

  • How/when to shoot the doubles

    • Correct order for doubles shots

    • Breaking two birds with one shot

  • Skeet scoring

    • Rules for using 25th shell

    • How to score a double kill

  • Strategies for breaking birds at each of the 8 stations

    • crossing birds

    • overhead going away birds

    • Birds coming at you

    • Station 8 challenges

The class will begin with the above formal instruction followed by a round of skeet for honing your skills.

 

Safety

  • Safety will be stressed at the start of the class
  • Any students observed in violation of range safety best practices will be asked to leave the class

Legal

  • During the web signup process students will agree to liability waiver language.

Cancellation/Noshow Policy:  This class is very popular, if you sign up and and then decide not to attend, you must go back to the EventBrite site and cancel your registration to free up your slot for someone else at least 7 days prior to the class date. If you do not do so, you will be invoiced for a $25 "No Show" fee. To cancel a registration: 1. Go to the EventBrite site and log in (www.eventbrite.com). 2. click on the "My Tickets" link. 3. Click the "View Order" button for the class you want to cancel. 4. Click the "Cancel Order" button and confirm.
