Introduction to Rhinoceros®
Two-day Rhino® Workshop with Ryan McKibbin
4/5/14 - 4/6/14 10AM - 4PM both days (12 hours)
What is Rhinoceros®, or Rhino®? Rhino® is one of the standard 3D modeling tools for designers and architects. Rhino provides the tools to accurately model and document your designs, to create, edit, analyze, render, animate, and translate curves, surfaces, and solids with accuracy and flexibility. Files created in Rhino can be exported to laser cutters, milling machines or 3D printers.
During this two-day Introduction to Rhino session, you'll learn to create and edit accurate, free-form, 3-D NURBS* models. This fast-moving workshop will cover much of Rhino's functionality with an emphasis on precision modeling, modeling aids and configuring to speed up your workflow. The second half of Sunday will be dedicated to designing and making laser cut jewelry. Familiarity with Rhino or related software (AutoCAD, Sketchup, ArchiCAD) will be helpful for this fast paced class. Materials are included.
*NURBS, Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines, are mathematical representations of 3‑D geometry that can accurately describe any shape from a simple 2‑D line, circle, arc, or curve to the most complex 3‑D organic free-form surface or solid. Because of their flexibility and accuracy, NURBS models can be used in any process from illustration and animation to manufacturing.
What to bring:
• A USB flash drive
• A brown bag lunch + drink (or grab lunch at a local spot)
This workshop includes:
• Class time, materials, one-on-one guidance, and a chance to meet other makers

FAB LAB DC
About Fab Lab DC ~
In the spirit of MIT’s Fab Lab community outreach project, FAB LAB DC is a fabrication laboratory/community workshop in the heart of the Nation’s Capital advancing creativity, innovation, and collaborative projects.
FAB LAB DC serves and fosters the creative community by providing access to digital fabrication technology, rapid prototyping, and the global Fab Lab network. Fab Labs enable people to use technology to create, experiment and produce, shifting the paradigm away from people merely “consuming” technology toward using technology to create solutions.
With a focus on life-long learning and emphasis on investigative teamwork, FAB LAB DC provides a range of educational opportunities for people of all ages, extending opportunities for information sharing, research, and broader social impact.
