Introduction to R for data analysis

This 4-lecture course is a hands-on introduction to the R programming language for data analysis. Topics will include the following.

  • How to install R and R Studio

  • Getting data into R

  • How R represents data: vectors, lists, and data frames

  • Basic data manipulation in R

  • How to create graphs using R

  • How to perform statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, t-tests, anova, correlation and regression

Each lecture will consist of examples followed by hands-on practice.

Be sure to bring your charged laptop.

Date: Thursdays, 1-3 pm (Oct. 5, 12 & Nov. 2, 9)

Instructors: Michael Walker, PhD & Bob Schmidt, MS (with assistance from Jing Shi, PhD)

About Jing Shi:

Jing Shi received her medical degree from Beijing Medical University, her M.S. in immunology from the University of Maryland, and her Ph.D. in bioinformatics and biostatistics from Stanford University. From 2007 to 2009 she was a statistician at Merck, and since then she has been an independent statistics consultant. Her work had contributed to 3 new products, 6 patents, and 19 publications.
