Introduction to Open Source Intelligence and Online Investigations

This training session will provide security professionals, police investigators, intelligence analysts, and academic researchers the practical tools and knowledge required to effectively collect open source intelligence and perform online investigations. In particular, the participants will learn how to covertly gather information from online sources using free open source software tools. They will also learn how to track down the entities behind IP addresses and domain names. The participants will learn first hand though real world exercises how to conduct covert collections and "hunt down" the owners of phishing sites. Finally, the participants will learn how to leverage social media sites using advanced online analytics tools to create a network map of online conversations or a groups.
