Event Information
Event description
Description
Join us to learn how to make and apply earthen plasters. Earth has been used around the world for centuries to make beautiful, clean, comfortable finishes, using local natural materials.
In this workshop you gain a basic understanding of working with clay, sand, fiber and pigments, and be able to apply the techniques to finish a earthen wall, or to create a natural finish over your sheetrock in your existing home. We will mix and apply both a ruff base coat plaster, as well as a smooth finish coat.
We will begin Saturday morning with making rough base coats and practicing on the greenhouse. We'll stop for a homemade organic, fresh lunch, contiunue through dinner. After dinner we will gather indoors for a slide show of other types of earthen plaster and natural building ideas.
Registrants are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor in the bioshelter, in the greenhouse or the solarium, so that we can get a good start on Sunday morning on smooth finished plasters. We will be retrofitting over sheet rock inside the bioshelter on Sunday. Breakfast and lunch are included.
There are so many health benefits for using natural plasters inside your home. We hope you'll come and learn this ancient skill.
