Description

INTRODUCTION TO MUSSAR

Mussar is a practice from Jewish tradition that helps us look at our lives as a curriculum for spiritual and ethical development. We explore personal qualities, and address those that need balancing, so we can become more whole, both for our own growth and for the improvement of our world.

AT THIS INTRODUCTORY SESSION Rabbi Bridget Wynne will share with us what Mussar is, why people participate in it, and how the practice of Mussars works. We will also get to know one another a bit, and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions you have about these topics. Refreshments will be provided.

After the introductory session we will ask you to decide whether you’d like to continue in a Mussar group, which will meet for an additional 7 sessions, twice monthly. The dates are below.

Want to learn more? Below are two brief, interesting, and enjoyable videos that offer introductions to Mussar, and here is an article on the history of Mussar.

• Tiffany Shlain's breezy and humorous story of her discovery of Mussar.

• Alan Morinis, teacher of Mussar, and participants in his program talk about how Mussar has changed and deepened their lives.

QUESTIONS? Contact Rabbi Bridget Wynne at rabbibridget@jewishgateways.org or 510-545-9977.
