Event description

Description

Over four fun filled sessions, this course will teach you the fundamentals of music for improv, taking you from zero to an improvised musical!

We will begin by breaking down fears of “having a bad voice” and adding singing to your improv toolkit. More advanced activities will involve breaking down song structure, developing choreography and using music to shape the story.

This course is suitable for alumni of ImproBubble's Level V and improvisers who have at least 1-2 year of improv experience, however no previous musical experience (improv or otherwise) is necessary.

This course will be held every Monday from November 5-26, from 19:00-21:30, at ImproBubble (184 Rue Haute).

Principal Instructors: Summer Banks & Ingmar Dasseville

About the Instructors:

Summer Banks

Summer Banks is a Californian-born, Berlin-based theatre-maker, vocalist and improviser. Drawn to improv for its heightening of the immediacy of theatre, she started performing with ComedySportz Berlin in 2009 and then founded the Berlin English Improv Network as a platform for the booming anglophone scene in Berlin. Her focus in improv performance is on musical improv and semi-improvised forms, and she has performed and taught around Europe from Athens to Amsterdam and up and down the U.S. west coast. She's developed her own one-woman improv cabaret form and is a co-founder of Rollercoasters, Berlin's first and only improvised musical group. In 2016 she was invited to Barcelona to perform in the BIG IF's improvised musical. In Madrid Summer began MAD Improv’s open jams and founded the MAD Academy. Together with Jackie Koester, she created Drunk Classics, a series of semi-improvised revues of classic texts. She has studied at the Second City summer institute in Chicago, with Bassprov’s Joe Bill, and Kevin and Amber from Dad’s Garage.

Ingmar Dasseville

Ingmar Dasseville was fascinated by the piano from a young age. He started classical piano lessons, but that did not restrict him from playing more styles of music, and also taking jazz lessons a few years later. This enabled him to combine the technique of the classical music with the freedom of jazz music. After playing in various blues, jazz, and Motown bands, he fell in love with improv theatre and improvised musicals. Starting off as the pianist for Preparee, the local student troupe in Leuven, but quickly expanding to accompanying a lot of different shows in all of Belgium. In 2016 he founded Commotie as a group to explore musical improv with. He took part in a number of improv festivals and was invited as the house pianist to the Copenhagen International Improv Festival 2018.
