Description

A great MI start for professionals in higher education, healthcare, social work, counseling or secondary education. Includes updated concepts from the 3rd edition of Motivational Interviewing, Helping People Change (Miller and Rollnick)

  • Spirit of MI: what, why and how.
  • 4 key skills for effectively engagement (OARS)
  • Major roadblocks and how to avoid them (RULES)
  • Diffusing defensiveness: What does research tell us?
  • Reflections: strategic and simple
  • Interactive practice opportunities to try it all out, using examples from healthcare, higher education and substance use treatment.

Participants will leave the training with a beginning level understanding about MI, and identify their own interest in trying it out and learning more. Can be combined with the level 2 training for those preparing to work with the BASICS program on a higher education campus.

Group size capped at 20.
