So you want to write a memoir… or a blog or memory book or special occasion narrative or a personal history or essay or another work of literary nonfiction?

Then this introductory memoir writing workshop will get you started on your project! Over the course of two weeks, you’ll determine goals, themes and timelines and create a “map” for your structure and organization. (After all, as the baseball legend Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”) Through lecture, discussion and practical exercises, you’ll learn about writing process, story elements and language discipline and observe how depth and details enhance the general interest of nonfiction writing. You’ll experiment with dialogue, description and personal reflection and explore how to handle versions of truth and how to remember what you don’t remember. And by the end of our time together, you’ll be ready to move forward with your memoir!
