Location: Nortrax, 300 Clinton Street, Springfield VT
Time: 7am registration, presentations 7:30am-4pm
Cost: There will be a cost to attend - Announcement of a reduced rate per person is pending
Course is limited to 35 loggers and satisfies the new LEAP mechanized logger category and qualifies for the Vermont Logger Safety and Workers' Compensation Insurance Program

This is a single day course that covers the basic initial safety training for mechanical logging, as well as new hazards that exist and how to address them. Participants will gain practical knowledge of the hazards of logging and the ways hazards can be mitigated. They will also learn what is expected of the employer and employees on the jobsite and in the office. Examples and templates of safety programs will be passed out along with other useful material that will assist in bringing a culture of safety to a company.

*Jobsite Safety: Hazards and Protection
*Not Your Daddy’s Diesel-New safe practices for low-sulfur diesel
*Machine Operation Safety: My Machine, My Responsibility
*Working around or near Power Lines
*Safe Planning of Operations- Who’s on first?
*Safety Training and Documentation- When and Why?
*Creating a Culture of Safety

Instructors:

Donald Burr- Safety Director of the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine. Prior to joining the PLC, Don was a Feller Buncher operator for Madden Timberlands in Old Town, ME for 25 years. He also is the Volunteer Fire Chief and Paramedic for the town of Greenbush.

Ted Clark - Loss Control Agent- Acadia Insurance
Prior to joining Acadia, Ted was the Safety Coordinator for Reed & Reed, a large contracting company that works with large construction and crane projects around New England.

Ted Wright - Director of the Northeast Master Logger Program. Prior to joining the Master Logger Program Ted was the Logging/Forestry Instructor at a vocational high school in Northern Maine for seven years. The program taught students safe practices of both Mechanical and Conventional harvesting equipment through hands-on application.
