Details:

This eight-hour introduction to IT security will be supplied via a collaborative CTF walkthrough. We will as a group discuss the pro’s and cons of the various tools and security measures employed to protect critical computer systems online through a practical hands-on CTF environment. Participants are encouraged to work with the group to come up with answers to each of the questions throughout the CTF.

Speaker BIO:

Jayson Brown has been an IT jobber since the late 90's. His knowledge is vast and deep when it comes to IT security. If you've seen it, he’s probably built it, hacked it and secured it. In his spare time, he designs artisan punch cards for his in-home Mainframe that he uses to hack all the things. His current work allows him to yell at security analysts about the difference between NAT and port forwarding and securing enterprise level business operations.

Jacob Layher, a relative newcomer to the Infosec field has fashioned himself as a trailblazer. Although his coworkers would say otherwise. His professional work has exposed him to both the good and the bad sides of IT. He has extensive experience with endpoint security, firewalls, and a ton of other stuff that any Security Analyst should probably know. In his spare time, he enjoys being a sympathizer for a Russian Sparrow and long walks on the beach. He is a Gemini.

Special notes:

  • Special thanks to Baker College for donating both the space and the time. Baker is not normally open on Saturday and made the extra effort to work with our busy schedules.
  • This is a product agnostic event. There is no sales pitch. We simply want to share the IT Security Experience. Maybe we’re crazy, but this stuff is fun to us.
  • As lunch is coming out of the presenter’s personal pockets. We’ve made it very easy on ourselves by concluding that pizza, bread sticks and pop from Little Caesars will work with the budget we have. If you have special dietary needs, please bring those items with you.
