Event description

Description

Introduction to Grant Proposal Writing (morning session): 8:30am-noon
Learn four strategies for improving your chances at obtaining grant funding. Build confidence in understanding five common elements of grant proposals. We'll also break out in small groups to review two actual proposals, and put theory into practice.

In this class, we'll discuss:

- How to tell your organization's story
- How to write a strong needs assessment
- How to write an evaluation plan
- How to use stories and other information to bolster your case
- What to include in your program and operating budget
- How decisions are made
- How to effectively communicate with staff at local foundations
- What to expect after you have submitted your proposal
- How to research grant opportunities, and determine whether or not those opportunities are a fit.
- How to understand grant guidelines, and how to write to the appropriate audience

Grant Makeovers (afternoon session): 1pm-3:30pm
This course goes beyond the Introduction to Grantseeking class by providing you with an opportunity to review three actual grant proposals. See the theory we covered during the morning session in action. By serving as a grant reviewer with a small team, learn how grant reviewers make decisions. Get some ideas for your own proposals based on the ones we're reviewing. Note: three participants will have an opportunity to submit their own proposals for review.
- Learn what works in a grant proposal, what confuses reviewers, and what to avoid.
- Get a birds eye view of how a grant review process plays out, and how to improve your own proposal.
