Introduction to Food Forestry
Sat, August 26, 2017, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM PDT
Are you ready to grow your
garden on the next level?
Shift the paradigm with Teague and Mel as we establish a brand new food forest on a .67 acre empty lot in SE Portland.
This is a rare opportunity to see firsthand what food forestry is all about and to learn how to create an edible ecosystem in your own yard!
As a student, you'll learn the history of food forestry around the world, with a focus on successful food forests in the temperate Pacific Northwest.
In this 3 hour workshop, we'll talk about how to use a permaculture skill-set to design and install a food forest based on site specifics. You'll learn strategies for how to obtain a yield from year one, even while you wait for some of the long-term perennials, such as fruit trees, to mature. On an educational in-depth tour, we'll discuss various plant guilds with real living examples in the food forest. You'll even get a chance to get your hands dirty in the garden with a seasonally appropriate activity, which will change month to month depending on the season and the weather.
You'll leave the class with a firm grasp on the basics of food forestry and hopefully you'll be inspired to create your own food forest somewhere soon!
