Event description

Description

The artist CarolAnn will guide you through the process of nature-based printing by demonstrating the scouring, mordanting and steaming involved of the fabric. The process is unpredictable and results in a subtle colour pallet suggestive of alchemy and traditional fabric staining. You will experiment wrapping leaf collections into bundles, producing a series of samples. Throughout the workshop you will be working towards creating your own eco dyed silk scarf.

Please bring along with you a selection of leaves to dye with, we suggest selecting fallen leaves on the ground; oak, birch, chestnut, brambles, smoke leaves (and also Onion Skins!). Waxy leaves and flowers are not recommended for eco dying.

Fabric will be provided which is specifically prepared for dying. If you wish to bring any of your own fabrics, it is important that your fabrics are scoured prior to the workshop to remove the chemicals. If you are thinking of bringing your own fabrics, please contact us directly to find out the method of treating your fabric.

This workshop is suitable for those with no prior knowledge of textiles or dyeing techniques.

Please note: Clothing is at risk of staining so please dress appropriately in an apron. I recommend bringing rubber gloves with you. If you have any queries at all please email me carolannja@icloud.com
